Enjoy being a part of a small group of people (4-8) with similar abilities. We offer a relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere that maximizes learning and growth.
Groups are led by a Speech-Language Pathologist and/or Communicative Disorders Assistant.
Pre and post screenings with individualized goals are included.
We run three, 12 week courses per year Orillia or Barrie locations, depending on interest.
Speech Group
Are you speaking as clearly as you could be?
Topics to be covered:
- Speaking with greater clarity
- Adapting your voice volume
- Improving confidence in your speech
- Making your voice sound interesting
- Speaking at an appropriate rate
Communication Group
Because you should be part of the conversation, not outside of it!
Topics to be covered:
- Stop, Think, Act – Learn how to use this strategy to positively communicate with others
- Improving Word Finding
- Starting and finishing a conversation
- Keeping a conversation going and on topic
- Listening and thinking of something to say
- Being clear on the telephone
Memory & Attention Group
Are you easily distracted or having trouble focusing with background noise? Do you remember what was discussed?
Topics to be covered:
- Remembering what you heard
- Paying attention in the presence of background noise
- Remembering what you read
- Using technology to compensate for memory difficulties
- Learning memory techniques (visualization, chunking)
- Developing self advocacy skills
